Short-tailed Grasswren and the newly split Western Grasswren, Western Yellow Robin and Rufous Treecreeper, Western Whipbird and Rock Parrot will be among the target species. In addition, time will be spent searching for the elusive yet beautiful Scarlet-chested Parrot. Heading north from Adelaide we visit some bird-rich coastal areas, as well as the Arid Lands Botanical Gardens, looking for Slender-billed Thornbill, Banded Stilt, Elegant and Blue-winged Parrot. After searching the Bluebush plains near Whyalla for Western Grasswren and the Turquoise subspecies of Splendid Fairy-wren, we'll start seeing Western Australian species such as Western Yellow Robin, Rufous Treecreeper and Blue-breasted Fairy-wren. Around Lincoln NP we'll look for the skulking Western Whipbird, then follow the Eyre Peninsula's scenic west coast to Ceduna, looking for Cape Barren Goose, Hooded Plover, White-bellied Sea-eagle and Osprey. On the northern Eyre Peninsula we spend a day looking for the beautiful Scarlet-chested Parrot. Optional whale-watching if time allows, then we venture into the Gawler Ranges. The rugged landscape here is home to Short-tailed Grasswren, Rufous Treecreeper, Major Mitchell's Cockatoo and many other species. At the end of the tour we bird our way back to Adelaide. |
