Habitats range from the dry red interior to lush, green eucalypt forests, and also include riverine wetlands and floodplains; mangroves and estuaries; the Murray River; vast expanses of the semi-arid mallee scrubland; and outback deserts with spectacular mountain ranges.

    Many rare and unique bird species are found here, including some highly endangered, sensitive or endemic species.
